What is GaN?
Gallium nitride (or GaN) is a transparent crystalline material well known for its “band gap.” The “band gap” tells us how a material can conduct electricity. A broader band gap allows for the use of higher voltages without problems.
GaN vastly outperform silicon’s electric mobility (our current material of choice). It also has higher power handling capabilities and higher temperature limits.
It is most beneficial when used in high-power wall chargers as this is where we can see its “band gap.” Its ability to operate at higher temperatures allows us to mount even smaller components we could not before.
Small package, immense power
Over the last six months, Mei Shun He has been developing a GaN Charger that will fit our customers’ needs. We are now proud the introduce our 65W GaN Modular Charger.
The 65W GaN Modular Charger has two distinctive parts, a 65W GaN PD Charger and a Docking Station. Both these parts can be mounted together or used separately. We used high-quality plastics with different finishing (matt/glossy) and a silicone slider to cover the two modules’ mounting brackets.
It will also include a 10cm USB Type-C to Type-C cable.
The PD Charger
The PD Charger is compact and perfect for traveling. It comes with a 65W USB Type-C port that can fast-charge appliances like laptops, tablets, and mobile phones.
The Docking Station
The Docking Station has a total of 2 USB Type-C ports and one Quick Charge USB Type-A port.
The C1 Type-C port works for data transmission or provides power to your computer through an external charger. This effectively turns the Docking Station into a dongle for your computer.
Combined Power
When combining both modules, the PD Charger will transform into a multiple port charger. Port C1 provides PD 45W, Port C2 5V/3A, and Port A QC 18W.
